A Pride Festival poster has faced criticism for its lack of diversity, featuring chiselled models with muscular physiques.
The poster promotes the ‘We Pride’ event, scheduled to take place from June 28 to July 2. The festival boasts a lineup of DJs and is touted as the ‘greatest gay party in the world.’
Ahead of the event in Madrid, Spain, ‘We Pride’ unveiled a poster conveying the message, “We change, and the world changes with us. We stand for equality and diversity.” However, the poster has received backlash for its limited representation of body types and specific members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Commenting on the poster, Archie Saunders expressed disbelief, stating, “Diversity? This poster must be a joke; they can’t be serious.” Justin David echoed the sentiment, remarking, “They all have the same abs. There are only two skin tones: pale and light-skinned black people. Not exactly a range of shapes and sizes.”
Chris Ballingall pointed out, “Using ‘diversity’ to describe this poster is certainly a strange choice; it is far from representative.” Ian Gowers added, “And apparently, only individuals with waist sizes under 34, maybe 32, are included.”
Theresa raised another concern, stating, “There is only one woman depicted, and the image seems to suggest she is straight/bisexual. Are there no lesbians?”
The criticism highlights the disappointment felt by some observers regarding the poster’s portrayal of diversity and inclusion. It serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting a broad spectrum of body types, gender identities, and ethnic backgrounds within the LGBTQ+ community.
