The new King Charles is a Burnley fan and will go head-to-head with his son, Prince William’s side, Aston Villa, in the Premier League next season. Burnley has just been promoted from the Championship. The monarch told an audience at a reception and dinner at Windsor Castle that he was a keen fan of the Lancashire club. Burnley responded by sending the then Prince of Wales, a complimentary VIP season ticket and urged him to attend a match in the directors’ box. But he is yet to take up the offer.
Prince Charles’ charities, including The Prince’s Trust, have done extensive work in the town and East Lancashire. On his visit in February 2010, he spoke of his affection for the Weavers Triangle development plans and their importance in the town’s regeneration. On that occasion, he also visited Turf Moor and met the then-chairman, Barry Kilby and manager, Brian Laws.
Speaking after the visit, a club spokesman said that they are sending a complimentary VIP season ticket to Charles as part of their new season ticket package and they hope to see him cheering on the Clarets from the Directors’ Box next season. Burnley returned to the Premier League at the first attempt after being relegated last May. Ex-Man City legend, Vincent Kompany has guided them after taking over as manager.
Prince William took his son, Prince George to Villa Park last month, with the Midlands club pushing for a European place. Prince Charles and Prince William’s rivalry is sure to add more excitement to the Premier League next season.
